Meta Will Put Naver Map Walking Directions in Its AI Glasses
On Sept. 29 Meta said Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta glasses in Korea will speak Naver Map walking directions this year. The feature is not on yet. Android comes first.
So basically: Meta said on Sept. 29 that its AI glasses in Korea will speak walking directions from Naver Map. The feature is promised for this year. It is not in the glasses yet.
The deal
Meta said it is working with Naver, and that Naver is its first Korean partner for AI glasses. The directions are headed to Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta.
You connect the glasses in the Naver Map app. The route comes through the open-ear speakers, so you are not supposed to keep looking at a phone. Korean papers quoting Meta and Naver say the guidance covers turns, entrances, nearby facilities, and whether to take stairs or an escalator. You can also ask by voice about places nearby, such as a cafe or a hospital.
Naver’s walking navigation, which it launched in June, is on Android first. iOS comes later. Meta and Naver said they will keep tuning the directions until the official launch.
What is still missing
There is no start date inside 2026, only “this year.” There is no price for the feature. Nothing in the reports says the directions work outside Korea.
My take
This is a maps deal, not a new pair of glasses. The test is whether the voice directions are good enough that people leave the phone in a pocket on a real sidewalk. Until the feature is actually on, it is a plan with a partner name on it.
So basically — pass it on.
